New Fitness EquipmentNew fitness equipment is extremely easy to find and is generally priced within a decent range. No matter what form of fitness interests you, there is a wide variety of information and options. For those of you shopping around for a home fitness program, a good place to start would be the bookstore. Take your time and browse through a variety of books on different programs. These books often have a lot of background information and supplemental details, in addition to training instructions. The 'Dummies' series seems to be extremely popular, with easy-to-follow training instructions, visual aids, interesting facts, and lots of helpful information regarding diet, medical information, and helpful hints to make your home workout easier and more enjoyable. Most fitness books sell for around $15-20, but can be more expensive. However, many bookstores feature fitness books at reduced or clearance prices as well. Once you have read up on the different methods and found one that suits or interests you, move on to the video store. For any fitness method found in a book, there will definitely be a video/DVD. Billy Blanks' Tae Bo workout sells for around $50 for the entire series, but can also be bought separately for $10-$15 each. The New York City Ballet Workout is available for $20 (vol. I and II sold separately). As with their books, the 'Dummies' series has been extremely successful with their videos and DVD's. 'The Basic Yoga Workout for Dummies' is available for $15. If you are into aerobics, there are many videos and DVD's to choose from. Some popular examples right now are the 'Method' series, Kathy Smith's home workout program, and the 'Firm' series. Each of these looks at various aerobic programs, such as kickboxing, cardio, body sculpting, weight aerobics, etc. The internet is actually a great place to look for fitness videos and DVD's as many sites sell them at reduced prices, and many also have deals for people who buy multiple items, such as reduced prices for multiple orders, and free shipping for orders over a certain amount. After you have a book, video, or DVD with which to follow along, depending on the program you choose, there may be additional equipment you need. Ballet can easily be practiced in bare feet, but it is recommended that you wear a pair of ballet slippers instead. A decent pair, bought brand new, will cost around $40. However, it is a worthwhile investment, especially for adults whose feet have stopped growing. A good pair of ballet slippers will last you for years. For those practicing yoga at home, most experts say that a large towel can be used to spread out on the floor, but a yoga mat is a better idea. The mat, unlike a towel, will not get crumpled up under you, and will not move or slide around the floor. The foam mats will also offer a uniformly flat surface, which is better for alignment purposes. Most fitness stores will sell yoga mats for as little as $15. The same goes for other fitness equipment targeted to yoga, such as foam blocks, ropes, and balls.
